The world's biggest record by a tigress to give birth to the maximum numbers of liger cubs was made by a Chinese tigress in 2007. At that moment, a Chinese tigress gave birth, to its 12th liger cub. Throughout the history and up until now, there is no tigress in the world which has given birth to that many numbers of liger cubs. This record achieving moment took place in China's Hainan province at a Zoo park named as Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park. Furthermore; this tigress gave birth to a liter of four liger cubs, which is also a record itself. Previously; only a tigress in United States at Myrtle Beach Safari has given birth to a litter of 4 liger cubs. There hasn't been any evidence of a tigress giving birth to more than four ligers within a single litter.
The name of the tigress, which gave birth to these record numbers of liger cubs was Huan Huan the tigress. Huan Huan is a South Chinese tigress and there are only less than 300 of these tigers exist in the wild. At the time of her 12th liger cubs' birth, the tigress Huan Huan was already 7 years old. Big cat experts believe that this tigress can still give births in future also, as tigresses can give births till the age of 10. However; the ideal time frame for a tigress to give births is in between 3 to 8 years. The name of the lion who fathered these 12 liger cubs is Xiao Er Hei. He is male African lion and his age is around 6 years. A male lion can successfully mate with lionesses or tigresses at the age of 15 years.
This record started to accumulate; when the tigress was about 4 years old in 2004. In 2004, she gave birth to a single liger cub. Then in 2005, this tigress gave birth to twin liger cubs. The name of these liger cubs was Ping Ping and An An. Right after that in the same year, she also gave birth to a single liger cub named as David the liger. Onwards during the year 2006, Huan Huan the tigress gave birth to a litter of 4 liger cubs. Finally; in 2007 the same tigress again gave birth to a litter of quadruplet liger cubs and made this current world record. Previously; a Bengal tigress at Myrtle Beach Safari in South Carolina gave birth to at least 7 ligers in its entire lifespan.
Out of those 12 liger cubs, 10 of the liger cubs survived and reached the age of maturity. This survival rate is of the liger cubs in captivity is almost similar to the survival rate of the tiger cubs and lion cubs in captivity. Moreover; the survival rate of these 10 liger cubs at China has truly given a shut-up call to all those critics who believe that liger cubs have genetic diseases and they cannot survival. Some experts believe that living conditions of the liger cubs and big cats in general are directly related with the survival rate of the big cat cubs in captivity. Therefore; if your zoo has reasonable living conditions for tigress and a lion, the chances of the liger cubs' survival will a lot higher.
=Liger cubs were very popular among the visitors and tourists visiting China. The world record for giving birth to maximum numbers of liger cubs had certainly created a lot of news buzz in the mainstream and social media. This world record also allowed ligers in China to be recognized at global level as well. People were rushing to Hainan Tropical Wildlife Park to watch these magnificent animals. The zoo always offers reasonable living conditions for the animals and offers impressive animals for the visitors.
After USA, China is on the second spot to have hybrid animals like ligers. There are around 100 ligers in the world out of which 60 ligers are in USA, while 20 to 25 ligers are believed to be in China. The birth of the liger cubs in United States started during the 20th century while the births of the liger cubs in China started during the 21st century. Currently; at least 6 zoos in China have ligers or liger cubs. More and more zoos in China are also looking to have crossbred hybrids.
